The Seven Doors

A Fairy Tale Framework for Divination

Kelly Fitzgerald · The Truth in Story

Every fairy tale is a map of transformation. The Seven Doors is a spread framework in the shape of a fairy tale — seven positions, from once upon a time to ever after. Cast here to name the tale unfolding at the time of casting, then lay your own cards, runes, or bones into the doors to walk it deeper. The Doors give the shape; your divination gives the depth.

Let the tale find you.

About The Seven Doors

Every fairy tale is a map of transformation. The hero leaves the ordinary world, crosses a threshold, is tested in the wood, receives a gift, faces a struggle, returns changed, and is recognized in a new form — this is not decoration, it is the grammar of how human beings move through change. A divination reading, at its most honest, does the same work: the sitter arrives with a question, a lack, a longing, and what comes through the door tests them, gives them tools, and shows them the shape of the turning they are approaching.

The Seven Doors is a spread framework built in the shape of that tale, drawn from the Proppian morphology of the folktale — seven positions carrying the sitter from once upon a time to ever after: Once Upon a Time, And Then One Day, The Dark Wood, The Gift, Breaking the Spell, The Way Back, and And Ever After. Each door holds eight archetypal beats. Cast the full seven to name the tale unfolding now, draw a single door for a single question, or lay your own cards, runes, or bones into the doors to walk it deeper — the Doors give the shape, your divination gives the depth.

The seven doors are always open. You have only to walk through.
